Furry Stuffed Animals With a 
Practical Side

Every trip from the car to the kitchen brought the same little struggle: juggling groceries while fighting with the garage door.I needed a doorstop that would hold the door open without being an eyesore. One that I could slide out of the way when the last bag was inside.

I began with my favorite question: What if…?

Hanging around on a bench was a stuffed puppet rabbit. What if I filled its hollow body with enough weight to hold the garage door open?

I chose a filling that would handle moisture without a fuss.

Then came the details that make functional art  work. I finished its bottom so it wouldn’t damage the floor and designed it so one could easily slide it into place—or out of the way—by using one’s foot.

And just like that, an ordinary garage-door problem became an extraordinary little piece of functional art.

Pretty enough to enjoy. Practical enough to work. And when its job is done, it quietly returns to being a furry, stuff animal that earns its keep.
