Belted Beauty
An Art Basket Born from Stubborn Elegance

The Story Behind the  Woven Straps

Belted Beauty isn't your ordinary basket. She's woven from Martin Digman Italian rayon elastic belt straps—silky ribbons that shimmer like liquid color but fight like wild things when you try to tame them.

At first glance: simple geometry. A closer look reveals countless hours of problem-solving and persistence.

The Challenges That Shaped Her

The Unraveling Problem
Cut woven elastic rayon, and it frays into chaos. The solution? A thin bead of glue applied to both sides before each cut, left to cure completely. Then slice through the center of that sealed line. Both ends stay locked. Crisis averted. One hopes. But not always. That is why I choose to leave a small portion of the unraveling process exposed.

The Alignment Battle
Woven straps refused to stay aligned. Glue failed. Basting stitches barely held. But "barely" was enough. Slow, meticulous progress won the day.

This basket exists because of stubborn dedication—not despite the difficulties, but through them.

The Details

Dimensions: 8" × 8" × 3.5"
Perfect for corralling keys, jewelry, art supplies, or living as pure sculptural beauty on a shelf.

The Crown:
33 hand sewn, back-to-back, buttons of differing sizes (total of 66) march along the top edge—a playful rhythm of circles and texture.

The Corner Accent:
Yellow cord bows nest in one corner, anchored by a "handmade" charm. A whisper of whimsy. A signature.

Why This Basket Matters

Belted Beauty proves that luxury materials can be wrestled into art. That problems are just puzzles waiting for patient hands. That sometimes the most beautiful objects are the ones that refused to be easy.

She's functional sculpture. Textile engineering. A testament to not giving up when the straps unravel.
